Location
Situated off State Highway 4 halfway between the townships of Ohakune and National Park is an area called Pokaka where the lodge is located. The land sits opposite National Park which is a World Heritage Site and the first national park established in New Zealand. A modern lodge is located on the land which can sleep up to 20 people.
It is prime location in the central North Island - only 215km from Wellington and 292km from Auckland. The surrounding area is absolutely perfect for tourism with numerous activities such as skiing on Mt Ruapehu which has Australasia's longest vertical run and New Zealand's highest lift; mountain biking; hiking and walking some of New Zealand's best known walks such as the Tongariro Crossing (“The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is heralded as the best one-day trek available in New Zealand, while others say it ranks among the top ten single-day treks in the world.”); river activities such as kayaking, canoeing and white water rafting; superb trout fishing in lakes and rivers; hunting - wild deer, pigs and goats as well as ducks, geese and quail; horse trekking; golf; bungy jumping; rock climbing and local hot pools.
The surrounding area really is one of natural beauty. With only being a few hours drive from the main cities Auckland or Wellington it makes for a perfect and easy weekend getaway.
